Red Island
One of the most romantic islands in the Adriatic Sea – the Red Island. These are in fact two islands connected by a dike. It is a 15-minute boat ride distance from Rovinj center. Huetterott family bought the island in 1891 and they redecorated the old island Benedictine monastery into a villa.
They planted various plants and trees from all over the world all over the island and turned it into a proper botanical garden. Presently, there are 180 various plants on the island. At that period, the island was a favorite holiday resort for wealthy Austro-Hungarians. A central part of the old Benedictine church is preserved and today, it is a home to a small naval museum with models of old ships.
There is a hotel on the island with rich choice of services. Former Huetterott residence was turned into a hotel wing with a restaurant, a café bar anOn our return from the Red Island, we had an opportunity to watch wonderful, picturesque Rovinj Town from the sea.
